Easy Iced Dirty Chai Latte Recipe

Trader Joes Dirty Chai Tea Latte Recipe

After trying Starbuck’s dirty chai latte with pumpkin cream cold foam, I wanted to make an easy dirty chai latte recipe at home! I found a super-easy way to create this at home using Trader Joe’s spiced chai concentrate. This recipe doesn’t contain pumpkin cream cold foam, but you can add the cold foam using this recipe here.

Masala Chai

Chai is a type of tea originating in India. Masala chai means spiced tea. Chai means tea, so although sometimes you hear it referred to as chai tea (which I am guilty of!), you are basically saying tea tea.

Most forms of chai tea begins with black tea, which is spiced with a combination of cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, star anise, and cloves.

What Type of Chai Do I use?

This recipe is using a cheat by using a packaged chai tea concentrate. There are many recipes you can make your own chai. If you don’t have the spices at home or just want a quick fix, you can try Trader Joe’s Spiced Chai Black Concentrate. This concentrate has quite a bit of spice [strong!] so the addition of coffee creates a good balance.

What is Dirty Chai?

Dirty chai is referred to when espresso or coffee is added to the drink. For this easy iced dirty chai tea recipe, I’ve added cold brew. If you want to make a hot version, I would use espresso.

What type of Coffee Do I Use?

I’m using Chameleon Cold Brew or SToK Cold Brew for this recipe, but you can use your favorite cold brew brand or make your own. You can also brew hot espresso and add it to your chai latte.

What type of Milk Do I Use?

You can use any type of milk you prefer! I used whole organic milk for this recipe, but any milk of your choice will work.

Do I need a Milk Frother?

You can add milk without frothing it, but I prefer the fancy feel of the milk foam. I’ve used a handheld milk frother like the Zulay Milk Frother, but I love the ease of using my Nespresso Aeroccino.
