Maternity Photo Shoot in Charleston, SC

Charleston Maternity Shoot

Charleston Babymoon

For our baby moon, we took the family to Charleston SC. We chose Charleston because its a close flight from Washington D.C. I’ve seen photos of what a cute and charming town it was so it seemed like the perfect place for a weekend getaway and to do a maternity photo shoot in Charleston!

Maternity Photo Shoot in Charleston

I didn’t do a maternity photo shoot my first pregnancy so I really wanted to do one this time around. We found the perfect photographer: Meredith Hilleary, through Instagram of course! We loved her light and airy photos and she was honestly just so patient with us. Its so hard to take family photos with a toddler (please tell me you relate!) She brought us to several of her favorite spots in Charleston and we had so much fun doing the shoot. It rained the initial day that we set up our maternity photo shoot in Charleston, but she was great and moved around her schedule so we could shoot before headed to the airport. Loved how all these photos turned out! Definitely check out her work on her Instagram too!

Pregnancy the Second Time Around

This pregnancy has honestly been so different from my first one and so much more difficult. I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrhage at the end of my first trimester. I had an unusual bleed and when you are pregnant, you freak out about any type of bleeding.

A subchorionic hemorrhage occurs when the placenta detaches from the original site of implantation. There is an increased risk of miscarriage during the first 20 weeks of gestation based on a NCBI retrospective study.

Of course, I googled my symptoms and I got scared when I read the reasons you may be bleeding during pregnancy. We headed to the ER on a Saturday night, and spent several hours getting checked. The good thing was that a subchorionic hemorrhage should just resolve on its own.

I was instructed by my doctors to take it “easy” – no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise and to cut back on work as my bleed didn’t get any better at my next few visits. I was so active in my first pregnancy, it really took a lot for me to try to scale back and relax more. The most important thing is having a healthy pregnancy so I was definitely willing to try anything that might help. Luckily within 2 months, the bleed did resolve on its own, although it was quite stressful wondering when it would. Definitely felt more aches and pains this pregnancy, but overall I can’t complain too much.

After the stressors of this second pregnancy and tons of doctor visits, I was definitely excited about taking this family trip/babymoon to celebrate our newest addition to the family. I can’t wait for him to get here and meet his big brother especially!

Toddler Love

Our toddler has been so extra sweet this last month. My typical Daddy’s boy has become a full fledged Momma’s boy, at least for now. Its the sweetest when he wants “Mommy & Baby” to do things with him or gives me the sweetest kisses on my belly. I know he’s going to be an awesome big brother even though he really doesn’t understand what’s coming next! I’m definitely getting a little nervous as my due date moves closer, but I’m excited to meet our baby boy.

Hope you enjoyed our maternity shoot. I have a TON of posts to do before the baby gets here including my Charleston guide and an ultimate baby registry guide, but I wanted to share something personal with you guys first! Thanks for following us on this journey. It really means a lot! Please let me know your experiences with pregnancy and beyond 🙂

Love,

Julie
