Family-Friendly Spots on the way to Sandbridge VA Beach

Sanbridge VA Beach Homes

We heard so many amazing things about Sandbridge VA Beach that we wanted to check it out while visiting Virginia Beach. We stopped at some fun little spots along the way to Sandbridge Beach. Definitely check out these places if you are visiting Virginia Beach or on your way to Sandbridge Beach.

Jerrassic Park

Jerassic Park VA Beach

This little dinosaur park is really cute! It’s small, but the kids LOVED the dinosaur structures. It was a nice little park. You won’t spend a long time there, but it is a nice stop on the way to Sandbridge Beach. It will take about 30 minutes to drive from Virginia Beach.

Check out the Military Aviation Museum if you have extra time.

  • Address: 1341 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457
  • Admission: Free
  • Parking: Park on the dirt road directly across from the entrance of the park.

Lotus Park Garden

This roadside park is full of beautiful lily pads. I would love to check out this garden when the lotus is in full bloom. It’s a nice Instagram worthy photo opp and perfect short stop before you hit Sandbridge VA Beach.

You can also canoe or kayak here with launch points on both sides of the road. You can access Ashville Bridge Creek, Muddy Creek, and North Bay from here. We didn’t have a chance to try this, but it would be a beautiful spot to canoe!

Sandbridge VA Beach

Sandbridge VA Beach

Sandbridge Beach is considered quieter than the Virginia Beach Oceanfront as there is no boardwalk. There are mostly vacation rental homes here. I didn’t notice any hotels or large parking garages. I would recommend heading there on a weekday as parking would be more difficult on a weekend here.

In August, we found quite a bit of jellyfish at Virginia Beach. We definitely saw less jellyfish at Sandbridge Beach. The water was a little nicer than Virginia Beach, but don’t expect Caribbean clear blue waters.

Check out Little Island Fishing Pier and Park or Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge while you are visiting Sandbridge Beach as well!

  • Address: Sandfiddler Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456
  • Admission: Free public beach
  • Parking: Try public lots or find street parking. We found some on Sandpiper Road and Porter’s Island Road.
